Zach Gibson makes first MSA start By: Todd Ridgeway Coutesy of the Richwood Gazette May 23, 2010 North Union graduate Zach Gibson made hid first Midwest Supermodified Association (MSA) start at Lorain County Speedway in northern Ohio last weekend winning his heat race and sitting on the pole for the 30 lap main event. Sailing to an eighth place finish with the bright red No. 00 in a strong field of fire breathing Supermodified Warriors. “We did pretty well, until up to lap 14 when I lost all my brakes. I could not really challenge anybody that showed me a wheel after that because I didn’t want to get up and into them; I just wanted to finish the race. I just slowly got shuffled to the back I had some brake, but they kept getting worse and they where pretty much gone at the end,” said Gibson. The third generation driver is a three time Buckeye Super Sprint Champion (2006, 2008, 2009) and it was just a matter of time until he moved up to much quicker series. Gibson will be driving for Dave and Michelle Koyan out of Elyria Ohio. The car is a little different than the other Supers in that it sports a small block Chevrolet engine compared to all the other big block methanol guzzling machines in the pit area. However, by utilizing the small block it does have a few advantages. “I built the engine myself,” stated Koyan. “The car should be a little easier to drive for Zach and we get a weight brake on the cars total weight as well,” finished Koyan. From Sprint Car to Supermodified is a step that would only seem right for a Gibson to take. “The Super has much more power; it just feels really natural to me. We did a pretty good transition for our first race out, I mean we won our heat, we struggled a little in qualifying, but we are still trying to figure this car out. I think we had plenty of power, we where pulling some of the big blocks on the straight-aways. I think it is going to be a pretty good motor this year,” finished the young driver. ##### 1/4/10 BREAKING NEWS REGARDING ZACH'S 2010 RACING PLANS!!
